In 1997 the British gave the city of Hong Kong back to China, following the agreement of “one country, two systems”. According to that agreement Hong Kong has until 2047 (expiration) before China possibly takes back full control of Hong Kong. It is in recent years with the 2019 protests and the installation of the National Security Law people are questioning if the expiration date will come sooner? References Here
